Composite Restorations — Quincy, MI — Family Dental Home

Composite Restorations (Fillings)

Composite fillings are a tooth-colored resin material that is closely matched to the shade of existing teeth. They are bonded to the tooth structure, which provides further support. As well as using the composite for restoring decay, they are also used to repair chipped, broken, or worn teeth. In most circumstances, less tooth structure needs to be removed when compared to amalgam (metal alloy) fillings when removing decay and prepping the tooth for a filling.

Crowns and Bridges — Quincy, MI — Family Dental Home

Crowns and Bridges

Crowns and bridges are both fixed’ prosthetics. Different from removable prosthetics such as dentures or partials, which can be removed and cleaned daily. Crowns and bridges are cemented to existing teeth or implants.

Dental Crown — Quincy, MI — Family Dental Home

What Is A Crown?

Crowns are used to cover or ‘cap’ a tooth to strengthen it. There are different materials a crown can be made with depending on which best fits your needs. Porcelain or resin-based can be matched to the shade of your existing teeth. Other materials may include but are not limited to gold, metal alloys, or acrylic. You may need a crown to restore a tooth with a large filling and minimal tooth structure; if you have a fracture, cover a dental implant or after Root Canal Therapy. There are just some needs for a crown. Needing a crown is not limited to the reasons listed.

Dental Bridge — Quincy, MI — Family Dental Home

What Is A Bridge?

A bridge may be an option if you are missing one or more teeth in a specific area. Gaps left by missing teeth cause the surrounding teeth to drift, filling the space, resulting in further problems like biting or occlusion issues and gum disease. Bridges are cemented to the natural teeth on both sides of the space caused by the missing tooth or teeth. These teeth are prepped to receive the bridge, serving as anchors. Like crowns, you have a choice of which material is used for your bridge.

Dentures — Quincy, MI — Family Dental Home

Dentures, Partials, and Repairs

Complete dentures are one of the options for patients with no natural teeth remaining. There are two types of procedures for dentures ‘traditional’ or ‘immediate’. Traditional dentures begin after teeth have been extracted if necessary, and the healing process is over. After try-ins and adjustments, your conventional denture is ready to be delivered in about eight to twelve weeks. Unlike traditional dentures, immediate dentures are made ahead of time and are ready for delivery immediately after teeth are extracted if necessary. You won’t be without teeth during the healing process. However, after the teeth are removed, bone and gum tissue shrink and change shape, requiring more adjustments than a traditional denture.

Partial Dentures — Quincy, MI — Family Dental Home

What Are Partial Dentures?

Partial dentures are used to replace one or more missing teeth. Like a complete denture, partial dentures are removable. They are made with a combination of materials, including acrylic and metal. Metal clasps are used to ‘anchor’ the partial to existing teeth. Modifications are made to existing natural teeth to receive the partial better. As well as new dentures and partials, we also offer some same-day repairs for existing removable prosthetics (dentures and partials). For same-day repairs, such as relines and more complex repairs for dentures or partials, we use a local dental lab.
